Entertaining

These are entertaining language courses - you learn through illustrated stories which follow the adventures of a young man who’s just moved to a new town. He finds himself a place to live, a job etc. but he also finds unexpected friends, enemies and rivals for the affections of the young woman who’s caught his eye.

The cartoon style illustrated stories let you follow the action in pictures as well as words – and that reinforces your learning too.

Easy to use

These are easy to use courses - each lesson uses the same format.

Short introduction in English, which sets up the scene for you and introduces some key words.
Illustrated story in the language you're learning. The illustrated story is told for you by native speakers of the language, so you hear the words spoken in context and you see the pictures that go with them.
Vocabulary - each new word listed in the Course Book is spoken clearly and slowly for you on the audio and its English meaning is given. There's a space on the audio for you to repeat the word out loud, which helps you memorise it and also helps you with pronunciation.
Explanations in plain English of what's going on in your new language.
Exercises for each explanation - this is where the Worksheets come in. If you're doing the Home Study course, you mark the Worksheets yourself using the Answer Book. If you're doing the Correspondence Course, you send them to your tutor using the pre-paid envelopes.
Summary of what you've learned in the lesson and a few words about what's coming in the next lesson.

Instructive

Each illustrated story handles a practical topic. You start off with finding accommodation and buying food and drink and move on steadily, until you can handle such things as; doing business, seeing a doctor, dealing with the police and even making a claim on your insurance.
